4-In the Kingdom of Fools

ЁЯУМ 1. Summary In the Kingdom of Fools

This story is about a strange kingdom ruled by a foolish king and his equally foolish minister. They order everyone to work at night and sleep during the day. All things in the kingdom cost only one duddu, no matter what you buy.

A guru and his disciple visit the place. The guru warns that it is dangerous to live among fools, but the disciple stays because food is cheap. He becomes very fat.

A thief dies when a wall collapses on him. The king starts a foolish trial and blames one person after another:

  • the merchant
  • the bricklayer
  • the dancing girl
  • the goldsmith
Eventually the circle ends back with the merchant, who is declared guilty even though he did nothing.

But the merchant is too thin for the execution stake. So they look for a fat man тАФ and catch the disciple.
He remembers the guruтАЩs warning and prays for help.

The guru arrives, tricks the king by saying that whoever dies on the new stake will be reborn as king and minister. The foolish king and minister get scared, switch places with the guru and disciple, and are executed instead.

The people request the guru and disciple to rule the kingdom. They agree and change all foolish laws.
